Biology/Chemistry 465
Course Policies
- Attendance of all lecture classes is optional, but HIGHLY recommended.
You will be held responsible on the exams for all information presented in
lecture, some of which may not be in the textbook. If you are absent,
it is your responsibility to learn what you have missed. Lecture attendance
may be used as one criterion for deciding borderline grades.
- Attendance of all laboratory meetings is MANDATORY. If you cannot
attend for a vaild reason, notify me IN ADVANCE. Laboratory absence
is grounds for failing the course.
- Make-up exams will ONLY be given if you contact me and get my permission
IN ADVANCE and in the case of an emergency or serious illness. If you do not
get my permission in advance, you will not be allowed to take the exam. This
policy will be strictly enforced.
- Cheating will not be tolerated in this class. Cheating includes
any work that you claim as your own, but it is not (eg. plagiarism, copying
answers, 'manufacturing' lab data, etc.). If you are caught, you will
fail the assignment and possibly the course. Additional disciplinary
actions through the Dean’s Office may lead to your dismissal from North Central
College.
- Deadlines are firm in this class. Please turn in your work at
the date and time specified. Late homework will be penalized at 20%
per day. Absolutely no late homework will be accepted one week after
the deadline or after Friday, June 4th in class.
- You are expected to check your North Central e-mail account at least
weekly, as I will use e-mail as a means of communicating with the class frequently.
If you routinely use another e-mail provider, it is your responsibility to
either check your NCC e-mail or have it forwarded to your alternate account.
- No ‘extra credit’ assignments will be offered. Instead of looking
for additional work, I recommend that you focus your energies on the exams
and laboratory work that are assigned.
- If you believe that you have been unfairly graded on an exam problem,
describe your reasoning in writing and submit it to me. Challenges need
to be received within one week after the exam is returned.
- Students who have a disability that may affect their performance in
this class are encouraged to talk with the professor at the beginning of the
term. Thanks.
